2020 ReVision of Home Healthcare and Telemedicine: New Cost-Effective Tools for Fall Prevention and Caregiver Engagement to Improve Care for Individuals Living with Cognitive Impairments (848385)

Thursday, October 22, 2020

 4:45 PM – 6:00 PM EST

Abstract

Therapeutic vibration is a new modality of muscle strengthening that we have adapted to reduce falls in older adults living with mobility/cognitive impairments. Our team will convey best practices based on its learnings.

This symposium will demonstrate the use of novel technology and training programs to successfully implement the most effective fall prevention programs in medical facilities, senior living facilities, and the home to reduce healthcare expenditures throughout the continuum of care. We will focus our discussion on telemedicine and home care, which are rapidly growing in acceptance and popularity because of the ability to implement effective care programs in the most economical, familiar environment to the care recipient. We will address future technologies which will further enhance the care for seniors, including IoT enabled medical devices, integration with electronic healthcare records, predictive analytics for informed decision making, and use of artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver optimal treatments to patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Organize an entire community to reduce falls throughout the continuum of care
  • Understand the use of connected technology / telemedicine for increased engagement/participation by seniors in fall prevention programs wherever care is delivered
  • Contemplate the elements of an effective fall prevention program
  • Understand how new exercise-based technology and programming can reduce falls in individuals living with cognitive impairment and reduced mobility

Exercises

We are providing you with some exercises to perform that reinforce ideas taught during our symposium. These should be useful regardless of your attendance at our symposium, but we urge you to register for the conference to view our symposium in its entirety as well as many other incredible sessions (Click here to register). These exercises will help you build the most effective fall prevention program for your needs or your community’s needs, and it will help you select technologies that may help improve quality of life and reduce cost of care in the home or other place of residence.

  1. Engaging your community in reducing falls [A link to this exercise will be coming soon.]
  2. Designing an effective fall reduction program for you or your community [A link to this exercise will be coming soon.]

Working with VibeTech to implement a Therapeutic Vibration Fall Reduction Program in your community

Please use our contact form or email us at answers@vibetechglobal.com if you are interested in working with VibeTech to implement a Therapeutic Vibration Fall Reduction Program in your community. The program is based on the use of one or more VibeSit PRO portable therapeutic vibration devices, depending on how many participants you are expecting. We will provide regular training sessions and will help you establish the most effective fall reduction program for your community.

Forum for Estimating the Time and Expense of a Fall

While the direct medical expenses associated with a fall are known and can be predicted based on the severity of the fall and the care setting in which the individual is admitted after the fall, the indirect expenses across all care settings and the caregiver time contributions associated with a fall are not as well known. We propose the development of an online forum for gathering this information. A link will be provided in the near future to this online forum. In the meantime, please send an email to Jeff Leismer, PhD, at FallsForum@vibetechglobal.com to get a dialogue started.
